Vietnam has developed 65 satellite-based Global Positioning Stations

Vietnam Department of Survey and Mapping(Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment) has launchedthe investment project "Construction of the network of satellite-based global positioning stations(GPS) in the territory of Vietnam" and developed the first one atthe Moc Chau agricultural-meteorologicalstationin Moc Chau district (Son La province).

Moc Chau is one of 65 stations belonging to the network of satellite-based GPSin thewhole territory of Vietnam.

Mr. Phan Duc Hieu - Director of the Vietnam Department of Survey and Mappingsaid the project has been implemented in the 2016 - 2020period. With this project, the technology and technical infrastructure of Vietnam’s survey and mapping sector will have turning point,contributing to promoting the application of new technologies, increasing productivity in this field; serving actively for the establishing the dynamic reference system, participating in the international geodynamic gridsystem. At the same time, it will help modernize thesurvey and mapping infrastructure system.

Especially, along with receiving data and allocating data to geodetic controlling network, and providing services for the detailed mapping measurement on a large scale using the new satellite positioning technology, it will orientthe Vietnam survey and mapping technology towards its modernization, lining with the development of information technology, data transmission techniques, as well as innovating steps forward of the satellite-based GPS in the world.
